Conclusions in the Dissertation: What, Where, When?

A conclusion is a reasoned and reasoned opinion on a specific issue, phenomenon or individual moment. In a dissertation research, the conclusions should take into account the studied fragment, its essence, emphasize not only the problem, but also the attitude of the researcher towards it.

The results of the dissertation research

Perhaps the only part of the thesis where there will be no conclusions is the introduction. Here it is necessary to note only what the author has done: describe actions, purpose, limitations, methods, etc. Further, throughout the work, the author will have to formulate “intermediate conclusions”, which emphasize the most important points on the topic, chapter or paragraph. It is also advisable to draw “final” conclusions at the end of the work (in conclusion), which will reflect the main, most important points of scientific activity.

Conclusions in the dissertation must meet the following criteria:

  • Conciseness and capacity: conclusions should emphasize the essence of what was considered, as well as mark the position of the researcher. When formulating, it is enough to rely on keywords, the most important points of the chapter / paragraph (theories, opinions, terms, techniques, etc.);

  • Logic and consistency: the conclusion should not only emphasize individual points, but also be readable, simple and understandable. The text of the "conclusion" is written in a coherent language, without jumps from term to term, etc.

  • Argumentation, validity: in the conclusion, the researcher emphasizes extremely important points, actualizes the problem, noting its importance and significance. Here it is important to point out specific facts that can confirm this.

  • Unanimity. This principle assumes that in the "conclusion" the researcher will note specific provisions, justify a certain position. The ambiguity of phrases must be excluded.

  • Literacy. Writing a scientific work must take into account all the rules of your domestic language. Conclusions are no exception. A professional must be qualified in everything!

  • Scientific style. All conclusions and the text of scientific work are carried out strictly within the framework of academic writing. The use of colloquial, emotionally colored, obscene and other unacceptable forms is unacceptable.

Conclusions on subparagraphs are formed by at the end of semantic blocks in the idea of "connections", transitions from one moment to another. At the end of the paragraph, it is also advisable to summarize the studied fragments.
